Last March, the presence of the Hairy Big-Eyed Bat (Chiroderma villosum) was recorded for the first time on the island of Cozumel. Although this species is found from northern South America to the Yucatan Peninsula, specimens have never been seen on the island and this finding speaks to the success of the Habitats Conservation Program carried out on the island of Cozumel.
The relevance of this finding has been recognized by the scientific community, with its acceptance for publication in the prestigious Mexican journal of mastozoology Therya Notes.
