Ichkabal is an archaeological site near Bacalar that was discovered in 1995 and since then excavations, records and studies have been carried out to unravel its history. On September 14, 2024, it will open its doors to the public and it is worth mentioning that the characteristics that make this site remarkable are its size, the complexity of its buildings and its antiquity, since it began to be populated around the year 300 AD, preceding Chichén Itzá and Uxmal.
To visit this archaeological site, the first thing that is recommended is to arrive in Bacalar by road or by the Mayan Train. Ichkabal is located 40 km to the west.
