Second Exhibition of Masks “Fascinating Universe” at the Mayan Museum of Cancun

Recently the Mayan Museum of Cancun inaugurated the second exhibition of masks “Fascinating Universe” with more than 100 pieces created by 42 artists, both Mexican and international, including 16 from the state of Quintana Roo. In this second edition, the artists present a contemporary vision based on ancestral cultures, magical rituals, mystery and satire, and festive dances that endure to this day.

Throughout history, masks have undergone ingenious transformations in various cultures around the world, becoming fundamental elements of traditions transmitted from one generation to another. These metamorphoses awaken intrigue and mystery, as can be seen in carnivals and other celebrations. This exhibition highlights the richness and diversity of disciplines and techniques applied around the concept of the mask. The pieces exhibited show their symbolism and use in different cultures and historical contexts, manifesting the fascination and mystery that masks evoke.

This exhibition will remain open to the public until June 26, 2024. The Mayan Museum of Cancun is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with the last access at 4:30 pm, and is located at kilometer 16.5 Kukulcán Boulevard, next to the San Miguelito Archaeological Zone.
